How to Develop Your Personal Vision Statement

Nearly 50 years ago, Rosa Parks made a simple, yet courageous decision that sparked a revolution. On December 1, 1955, she was riding on a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama when a white man demanded that she give up her place on the bus.  She declined, even though the rule said she had to do.  

With this small act of defiance, evidence of personal courage, Rosa Parks gave a voice to a new beginning that started the civil rights movement, a voice that required justice and equality for all.

What gave Rosa Parks the insight to do what she did?  Basically, Rosa Parks had a vision. She had a vision for a better way of life for herself and her peers.  She saw herself as the creator, keeper, and instigator of that vision.  She knew that her vision was possible as long as she took steps everyday to bring herself closer to her dream as reality.

Many years ago, during a tribute to her accomplishments, Rosa Parks said, “Without vision, people will perish, and without courage and inspiration, dreams will die!”  Rosa rejected to let her dream die. She supported her vision with a clearly defined idea that was strongly ingrained in her core values and beliefs.

Rosa’s dream was grand and revolutionary and it changed the world. Your personal vision needs only be immense in your own life.  Vision is vision regardless of the extent.  And every vision is the result of a strong sense of purpose and acknowledgement about who you are, and what you want.

This is the beginning of a brand new chapter in your life.  Once you acknowledge what it is you want to do, be, and realize, you can create all the goals and set in motion all the plans that will carry you there. It is an exciting and exhilarating (discovery~personal breakthrough} when you find your purpose and create your personal vision.  

From this new place of clarity and self knowledge, you can begin to incorporate all your past experiences, hurts, and disappointments with the actions that are going to move you forward, and help you create a brand new story.
